Dating safely

Most people you meet are exactly who they say. These habits protect you from the few who aren’t.

Report romance fraud to An Garda Síochána

If someone you met online asks for money or you think you have been scammed, report it at any Garda station. Reports are treated in confidence. Call 999 or 112 in an emergency.

Call your bank quickly if you have sent money

Gardaí advise contacting your bank first if you think money has been taken from your account. Then report it to your local station, and report the profile to us so a person can review it.

Plan your way home from rural dates

In small towns, meet first somewhere public and tell a friend where you are going. Transport can be thin at night, so check TFI Local Link evening routes or arrange a lift before you go, rather than relying on your date.
